Burnley v Brighton betting tips and odds

Burnley begin their Premier League campaign with a low-key match against Brighton who are the 13/10 favourites to start the season with a victory.

Both teams finished in the bottom five last term but have been fairly quiet during the summer transfer window which has resulted in the Clarets being priced at 12/5 in the Premier League relegation odds.

The Seagulls are 15/2 to go down despite Ben White joining Arsenal in a £50million deal, so let’s check out the odds and markets in our Burnley v Brighton betting tips.

Match Odds

Burnley boss Sean Dyche added centre-back Nathan Collins from Stoke for around £12million and goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey signed on a free transfer from Crystal Palace but that’s been about it for the Lancastrians, who won five of their six pre-season friendlies, conceding just four times.

Brighton, 13/8 for a top-half finish this season, snapped up central midfielder Enock Mwepu for £20million from Salzburg and although they have been linked with a move for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, it has been a quiet summer transfer window so far for manager Graham Potter.

Both matches between these teams were drawn last season and there has been a stalemate in eight of the last 11 encounters, so a share of the spoils is 2/1 while goals added to that market is 17/5.

Only relegated Sheffield United and Fulham scored fewer times than Burnley last season so it’s perhaps not a surprise to see under 2.5 goals available at 1/2, bearing in mind that’s been the case in six of their previous eight meetings.

Despite finishing fifth from bottom, the Seagulls kept 12 clean sheets last season – the fifth highest in the Premier League – and they are 5/2 to win to nil while the Clarets are 23/10 just to win or 4/1 without conceding.

Two of the last four matches ended as 1-1 draws and that scoreline is available at 5/1 as the last of our Burnley v Brighton betting tips.

Talking Tactics

Burnley striker Chris Wood is back from Olympics duty with New Zealand so he is likely to be accompanied by Ashley Barnes or Jay Rodriguez in a 4-4-2 formation.

Brighton failed to score in their two pre-season friendlies in the build-up to the new season, their first a goalless draw with Scottish champions Rangers in which five senior players were missing, but they welcomed back the likes of Adam Webster, Lewis Dunk and Leandro Trossard in the 2-0 defeat by Getafe.

Potter preferred to deploy three at the back in a 3-5-2 formation last season but with White having left the club it remains to be seen whether that will still be the case.

Goalscorer Odds

Wood played in the final pre-season game, a 2-0 defeat by Cadiz, and is 7/2 to open the scoring or 17/10 to bag a goal.

Barnes and Rodriguez are 11/2 and 6/1 respectively to break the deadlock or 5/2 and 13/5 to score.

Brighton’s main hope is Neal Maupay at 9/2 and 21/10 in both markets, while Trossard is 8/1 and 7/2.
