Premier League Review: Hammers off the mark as Liverpool down Spurs

Liverpool and Chelsea maintained their 100% records and West Ham United finally got off the mark as the Premier League returned over the weekend.
There’s one match still to go from this round of games, but here we take a look at the action from Saturday and Sunday’s matches.
Are Liverpool the real deal?
Liverpool came unstuck 4-1 against Tottenham Hotspur 11 months ago. That Wembley defeat effectively put an end to their title ambitions before they’d even begun.
Fast forward to the present day and the Reds have laid those demons to rest to confirm their status as serious challengers this season.
Goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino helped them on their way on Saturday in a 90 minute performance where the Merseysiders looked a class above their opponents.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have clearly learnt their lessons from last year’s mauling. Now they have to be taken seriously as title contenders. You can back them at 2/1 for a first crown since 1990.
Sarri’s Eden project bearing fruit
A summer of chaos at Stamford Bridge threatened to derail Chelsea’s title charge before a ball had been kicked.
But Eden Hazard and Maurizio Sarri are jointly ensuring the Blues remain firmly in the conversation.
The Belgian magician hit his second top-flight hat-trick as the West Londoners went top of the Premier League with a 4-1 win over Cardiff City.
He’s now 4/1 favourite to be named PFA Player of the Year.
Chelsea have as good a chance as any while the talismanic attacker is on top form.
And with Sarri slowly imprinting his brand of football on the five-time PL champions, the only way is up for 9/1 title shots.
Toffees come unstuck against slick Hammers
Everything finally clicked for West Ham at Everton yesterday.
Andriy Yarmolenko bagged a brace and Marko Arnautovic’s added a third as the Hammers moved out of the relegation zone with their first league win of the season.
The aforementioned duo linked up superbly alongside Felipe Anderson, while Declan Rice played beyond his years in the defensive midfield role.
That spells good news for the East Londoners going forward, with fixtures against Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United in the coming weeks.
The Toffees, on the other hand, were uncharacteristically poor under Marco Silva.
They’ll need to sharpen up defensively and be far more clinical up-front if they want to be the best of the rest this season.
