Monday night football has a distinctly southern vibe to it tonight when Southampton host South Coast comrades Brighton & Hove Albion.
Both sides are on four points from their opening four matches, and last season’s meetings ended in a pair of 1-1 draws. The duo have already met this term, with Southampton claiming a narrow 1-0 EFL Cup win in a match which saw both teams field weakened teams.
Another close match-up looks to be in store tonight…
The Saints have won one of their last 13 home games, but go into this one as Evens favourites.
Chris Hughton’s Seagulls are 29/10 outsiders, but haven’t won any of their last 15 away games in the Premier League.
A repeat of last season’s 1-1 draws could catch the eye at 11/5.
Mark Hughes’ men are likely to lead with a traditional 4-4-2, with Danny Ings and Charlie Austin up front.
Nathan Redmond and Ryan Bertrand will be looking to get at Brighton down the left-hand side however.
The Seagulls went 4-5-1 in their most recent away game, so we can expect more of the same, with Glenn Murray the target man tasked with hustling Saints defenders.
Ings has settled in nicely since his move from Liverpool. The Englishman scored the opener against Crystal Palace a fortnight ago, and is 4/1 joint-favourite alongside Austin to score first.
Brighton have only scored 10 away goals in their Premier League history, but Murray has already found the net three times this term.
The 34-year-old bagged in both meetings last season too, and is the Seagulls’ most likely first goalscorer at 11/2.
