Sheffield Wednesday continue to suffer troubles off and on the field after being hit by a winding up order for the third time in as many months by Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs.
The League One club had previously been saved by sealing a deal with the Co-operative bank over an unpaid tax bill, but the latest order also relates to a failure to pay their taxes.
Chairman Howard Wilkinson is hopeful that the club will be rescued by a loan from a potential investor, which will clear the sum of over £600,000 owed in unpaid tax.
Meanwhile, he is also convinced that the debt will be cleared with plenty of time to spare this time, rather than the situation being resolved at the last minute.
As Wednesday’s troubles go on off the pitch, they continue to struggle on it, as they are without a League One win since August.
A bright start had seen them occupy top spot for a short while, But four defeats in their last five games has seen them slip to 16th in the table, nine points adrift of new leaders Brighton.
There is no doubting the talent of the squad available to Alan Irvine and if he can get the team believing in themselves again, then the 8/1 offered on them winning League One could be a big price.
Sheffield Wednesday travel to Notts County for their next game and they are 17/10 to leave with the three points.
Notts County head into the game having just upset Peterborough and are 6/4 to beat Sheffield Wednesday and complete a productive week.
