Ronnie O’Sullivan has rocketed to the head of the betting for the 2020 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The 44-year-old won a sixth World Snooker Championship title at the weekend after beating Kyren Wilson at the Crucible, forcing our traders to slash his odds for the BBC gong.

From 33/1 at the start of the tournament, O’Sullivan is now a 7/2 shot to become the first snooker player to win the award since Steve Davis in 1988.

Tyson Fury and Marcus Rashford continue to head the betting at 6/4 and 5/2 respectively, but the Rocket’s win at the weekend has put him firmly in the frame.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Ronnie’s Crucible success has seen him close the gap on the frontrunners in the race for SPOTY.”
