Having lined up at Old Trafford and Anfield Jimmy Bullard was used to tunnels of terror in his playing days but nothing could have prepared him for the bushtucker trial version on I’m A  Celebrity.

The former Wigan, Hull and Fulham ace was the first celebrity picked to take part in a bushtucker trial and provided viewers with TV gold.

In the Tunnel of Terror trial Bullard was tasked with negotiating an underground obstacle course filled with water pythons, mud crabs and other jungle life in a bid to collect six stars.

He only managed four but his shrieks of despair and obvious fear of the critters meant he provided viewers with the right balance of determination and entertainment that could see him go far.

As such, Ladbrokes has re-installed him as the favourite, cutting his price overnight from 10/3 to 9/4.

Bullard may have received a ticking off from show producers for his crude language during the trial but Ladbrokes’ Jessica Bridge said viewers will not be put off.

“He might have been given the red card by ITV bosses, but Jimmy’s efforts in the Tunnel of Terror have seen punters put him at the top of the jungle’s Premier League,” she commented.

Melanie Sykes, remains the leading lady and can be backed at 5/2 to win the show outright, while Craig Charles makes up the top three at 5/1.

Charles is now the only male contestant remaining in the Celebrity Slammer and has likened spending his days locked up with Gemma Collins, Nadia Forde and Vicki Michele to being in a real-life rom-com.

Pint-sized rapper Tinchy Stryder is next up on the bushtucker trial front and seeing as how Bullard’s success saw his price cut it could pay to take the 8/1 on a Stryder win before the odds get as short as the musician himself!
