Bond, you plonker! Idris Elba more likely to play Del Boy than 007

He was once the clear favourite to replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond. But now our traders reckon Idris Elba has more chance of pitching up at Nelson Mandela House than MI6.

That’s because the Luther star is now just 9/2 to star as Del Boy in a revival of classic sitcom Only Fools and Horses.

New episodes of Only Fools haven’t been seen on British TV screens since 2003. Yet rumours of a comeback for the show, coupled with Elba’s recent switch to sitcom, have sparked suggestions of a return.

We go as short as 3/1 that Fools and Horses chiefs announce the return of the show by the end of the year.

And with Londoner Elba now a favourite for the role, his odds of being the next James Bond have drifted out to 8/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “He’s recently tried his hand at comedy and we reckon his London roots put Idris Elba in pole position to be the next Del Boy.”
