Francesca Schiavone was successful for the safety net bet last week and we are hoping for a repeat of this when she takes on Monica Niculescu in the second round of the New Haven Open in Connecticut.
Women’s tennis proved solid ground for the safety net bet yesterday as Sabine Lisicki made light work of Sania Mirza at the Texas Tennis Open, prevailing 6-3, 6-0.
We will be hoping for a similar result from Schiavone today, who has failed to drop a set in her only two previous meetings with Niculescu.
Meanwhile, both of these victories have come on hard courts, with the most recent being at the Australian Open earlier this year.
Niculescu has mainly only beaten Challenger level players in recent months, although the Romanian may have gained a confidence boost from a victory over Tsvetana Pironkova in her opening match of the New Haven Open.
However, too much should not be read into this success as Pironkova is an up-and-down type of player and is known to struggle on hard courts against players deemed weaker than her based on the WTA Tour rankings.
Schiavone also had little trouble is progressing past another Romanian in the form of Alexandra Dulgheru in the opening round at Yale University and Niculescu is ranked lower than her compatriot.
The number-three seed is 1/5 in the tennis odds to beat Niculescu to reach the quarter finals of the New Haven Open and we will be staking £100 on this outcome in order to fulfil our aim of making £20 each day.
Today’s stake: £100
Best case scenario: £479
Worst case scenario: £359
Last Safety Net bet: Sabine Lisicki to beat Sania Mirza @ 1/6
Wealth warning: although we are confident the safety net bet’s strategy will be profitable over a period of time, the nature of sport means we cannot guarantee you will win every single time.
