With two tournament victories to her name this season it’s easy to understand why Caroline Wozniacki is the 5/2 favourite to win the Sony Ericsson Open this week.
Having defeated Marion Bartoli in the Indian Wells final last week, Wozniacki enters this tournament full of confidence and considering she’s lost just three of her 25 matches this year, the Dane is certainly a contender.
But despite entering the tournament as the number one seed, Wozniacki’s draw looks difficult as potential ties with Daniela Hantuchova and Flavia Pennetta before a quarter-final clash with Jelena Jankovic.
We could have a surprise semi-finalist in Vera Zvonareva’s quarter as, despite the Russian being the number three seed and third favourite at 7/1, Zvonareva was knocked out of Indian Wells in the second round and comes into this tournament rusty.
Last week’s finalist Marion Bartoli is in Zvonareva’s quarter and despite losing the final last week, the former Wimbledon champion will fancy her chances of a second consecutive final and is available at a big 33/1 to win.
Kim Clijsters comes into the tournament having exited in Indian Wells with a shoulder injury and while the 4/1 for Clijsters to win the tournament would usually be snapped up, the questions surrounding her shoulder make her a risky bet.
Victoria Azarenka (16/1) and Ana Ivanovic (33/1) are both in Clijster’s quarter and will more than fancy their chances against an injured world number two and could potentially face Bartoli in a semi-final.
The lower half of the draw seems to hold all the value and while Wozniacki may have won last week, Bartoli can reverse the form and end up with the tournament victory in Miami this week.
