Novak Djokovic is the 4/7 favourite to win this year’s Wimbledon final against home hope Andy Murray – and it’s hard to see those odds being upset.
Neither player had the toughest route to the final thanks to the early exits of Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer but both have shown glimpses of vulnerability. Murray needing five sets to win his quarter-final against Fernando Verdasco, while Djokovic also needed five to see off Juan Martin del Potro in their semi.
However, Djokovic faced a Del Portro playing fantastic tennis and his ability to match the big-hitting Argentinean from the baseline will be a source of huge encouragement.
So will his head-to-head record against Murray.
Since his US Open final defeat to Murray last year, Djokovic has won their three subsequent meetings, although their only grass meeting – in last year’s London Olympics – saw Murray emerge victorious.
With temperatures set to hit nearly 30 degrees in SW19, it promises to be an absolute slog for both players but, as he has shown time and time again, Djokovic is able to grind out results and push himself further than any other player on the planet.
A patriotic punt on Murray to win is available at 8/11 but backing the Serb at 4/7 looks the best way to make some cash on this final.
