It’s not looking great for the contenders outside of the top four seeds in the mens draw with the world’s best players looking in imperious form.
Roger Federer remains favourite for the title at 2/1 after demolishing Adrian Mannarino in straight sets but Rafael Nadal is looking solid and is a very tempting 9/4 while Novak Djokovic is 11/4 and Andy Murray is 11/2.
While the top four seeds continue to prove just why they are the world’s best, the challengers continue to provide us with excellent tennis, highlighted by Robin Sodeling’s incredible comeback against Lleyton Hewitt yesterday.
Today centre court will witness another incredible tussle between Andy Roddick and Feliciano Lopez, and that’s the match we’ll focus our attention on today.
Roddick is the 3/10 favourite and is nailed on for the win considering he leads Lopez seven-nil in head-to-head encounters, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t value to be found in the set betting.
There most recent encounter between the two was at Queens a fortnight ago and while it was only a best-of-three match, it went the distance with two tiebreaks in the opening two sets.
The two have only met once in a Grand Slam tournament in last year’s Australian Open and Roddick was victorious in four sets, but two of those sets included tiebreakers.
Punters can get 1/3 that there is a tiebreak in the match and that looks a certainty on the basis of their recent encounters.
The real question is whether Roddick wins in four sets or five sets and the American is 5/2 to win in four, and 11/2 to win in five.
The crowd that fills centre court will be baying for a five-setter but the American looks the better bet to win in four sets.
Mardy Fish vs Robin Haase
In a repeat of the French Open second round match, Fish looks a great bet at 3/10 to win after his straight sets victory on clay.
Fish has won both of his Wimbledon matches in straight sets although has contested three tiebreaks, and he needed a tiebreak in his French Open win before cruising through the next two sets.
It’s 4/6 that there’s a tiebreak in this match but punters should take the 6/4 to win 3-0.
