Easy Azarenka win is highlight of US Open accumulator

Published:

The third round should technically mean that things will get a little bit tougher for the better players in the women’s draw at the US Open, but that hasn’t stopped us tipping three players to progress in straight sets in our latest accumulator.

Simona Halep is the fourth inclusion in the 6/1 fourfold, but she is unlikely to have it quite as easy against Maria Kirilenko.

Simona Halep to beat Maria Kirilenko @ 4/7

This pair barely made an unforced error between them in the last round so something will have to give here in what is surprisingly their first ever meeting.

Having lifted the title New Haven before arriving in the US Open, Halep is the player more in form and debatably has the better second serve, which could be key.

Victoria Azarenka to beat Alize Cornet 2-0 @ 1/7

This isn’t the most inspired selection and some may say that it is a dangerous one, considering that Cornet won the first set when the pair clashed at the French Open earlier this year.

However, Azarenka dropped just one game in their only previous hard-court meeting and has only lost four games ahead of the third round at Flushing Meadow.

Ana Ivanovic to beat Christina McHale 2-0 @ 1/2

Ivanovic dropped just three games en route to beating Alexandra Dulgheru in round two and McHale is very similar to the Romanian in terms of her average first serve speed, which should allow the number 13 seed to chase second serves.

Having given up 19 break points in round two, McHale is arguably lucky to still be in the US Open and she has also lost both previous match-ups with Ivanovic, with the most recent on the hard courts of Beijing last year.

Svetlana Kuznetsova to beat Flavia Pennetta 2-0 @ 6/4

Kuznetsova has reached the fourth round in her last three US Open visits and made it to the quarter finals in both her Grand Slam appearances this year.

She also leads Pennetta 5-0, with an impressive four of these victories coming in straight sets.
