French Open accumulator: Errani to march towards another final
Published:Sara Errani went all of the way to the final of the French Open last year and she can move one step closer to repeating this achievement with a victory over Sabine Lisicki.
An Errani victory is just one leg of our four selections to make up a women’s third round accumulator at Roland Garros, which pays out at 17/1 should the chosen quartet all emerge victorious.
It has taken the top two in the WTA rankings to eliminate Errani from her recent tournaments in Madrid and Rome and she has dropped just five games in total in reaching the third round in Paris.
Lisicki will put up far sterner resistance in what is somewhat surprisingly her first appearance in the third round of the French Open, but she is expected to come up short.
Like Lisicki, another German Angelique Kerber could also be on her way out in more of a shock result against rising American Varvara Lepchenko.
Lepchenko is the underdog despite winning all four of their previous encounters, including two on clay and has a deadly forehand that could prove the key factor in this all left-hander clash.
The other upset victory in the fourfold is Bojana Jovanovski, who can follow up on beating Caroline Wozniacki by also sending home Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Kuznetsova started terribly slowly in beating Magdalena Rybarikova in round two and a repeat of this would put her in trouble.
Given that there are only nine WTA ranking places between these two too, Jovanovski does look exceedingly good value.
The final pick is Spain’s Carlo Suarez Navarro, who may have made hard work in needing a deciding set to win both matches to reach this stage, but her experience will be valuable against Grand Slam debutant Monica Puig.
The teenager has done exceedingly well to reach this stage and in the process has become the first Boricua woman to reach the third round of a Slam in the Open era.
But this will be her toughest test so far at Roland Garros and she has already been beaten in straight sets by Suarez Navarro on clay in 2013.
