He’s arguably been the hottest property in tennis since losing in the 2010 US Open final and Novak Djokovic heads into the Sony Ericsson Open unbeaten in 2011.
It’s a cracking line-up in Miami this week with the likes of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Tomas Berdych all taking their chance, but the man they all have to beat is Djokovic.
Djokovic and Nadal share the 5/2 favouritism this week and as they’re both in separate parts of the draw, it’s highly likely what we can witness a repeat of last week’s Indian Wells final in which Djokovic came from a set down to defeat the world number one.
Federer was beaten by Djokovic in the semi-finals last week and finds himself priced at 9/2 to win the Sony Ericsson Open while Andy Murray leads the chasing pack at 9/1.
Murray faces a tricky route to the final and with the form he’s currently in – two first round defeats since losing the Australian Open final to Djokovic – it’s hard to make a case for backing the Scot.
However one man who could impress this week in Juan Martin del Potro who at 12/1 is a huge price is he can replicate the form that saw him reach a semi-final last week.
Del Potro is arguably in the easiest quarter of the draw with Robin Soderling and David Ferrer the highest seeds, although the Argentine would face a potential third round match with Soderling before a potential quarter-final with Ferrer.
Miami will host the world’s best when the tournament proper gets underway on Wednesday and with such a strong field, punters will be sure to see some quality tennis and some tight matches which should produce plenty of value.
