Maria Kirilenko gave us a little scare yesterday when winning the second set in her match with Francesca Schiavone, but ultimately Schiavone’s class told.
Schiavone’s win took the Safety Net bank to £419 and while we’re sticking with tennis once again today, we’re focusing on the men’s draw in which Rafael Nadal is a brilliant price.
The world number two is 1/7 to beat his fellow countryman Fernando Verdasco and we can only think Nadal is as short as that because of his shock opening round exit in Montreal last week.
Like Andy Murray, Nadal is determined to bounce back to form this week and after a straight sets victory over Julian Benneteau in the first round the Spaniard can ease past Verdasco today.
Nadal has won all 12 meetings with Verdasco and five of those have come on the hard court, including their most recent meeting in the 2010 US Open.
Two of those five meetings came in Grand Slam events and while Nadal won one in straight sets, their 2009 Australian Open match-up saw Nadal win in five sets.
Of the three ATP Tour matches they’ve played on the hard court, Nadal has won them all in straight sets and the Safety Net is loving Nadal’s odds to win today.
The two will take to the court at around 4pm, and while a straight sets win for Nadal is tempting at 2/9, we’re staking £140 on the Spaniard winning to hit our £20 target.
Today’s stake: £140
Best case scenario: £439
Worst case scenario: £279
Last Safety Net bet: Francesca Schiavone beat Maria Kirilenko @ 4/7
Wealth warning: although we are confident the safety net bet’s strategy will be profitable over a period of time, the nature of sport means we cannot guarantee you will win every single time.
