After securing their highest league finish since 1981 last term, Partick Thistle have struggled to find their feet in this campaign. The Jags are currently winless and bottom of the Ladbrokes Premiership after nine games.
However, despite the Maryhill club’s poor start to the season, there’s reason to believe they can kick-start things with a victory over Dundee this weekend. Here’s why we think all the value is with Thistle in this clash…
They’ve dominated the Dee in recent times
The Jags won all three of last season’s meetings with Dundee. Not only that, but Alan Archibald’s men didn’t concede a single goal in the process.
In fact, the Tayside club hardly had a sniff in those games, failing to record more than three shots on target in any of the trio of clashes.
With most of last season’s key performers still at Thistle this term, there’s every reason to believe the same players can make the difference for the hosts again. Thistle to Win to Nil looks excellent value at 14/5. Especially because…
Unlucky Thistle haven’t been playing too badly
While the Jags were poor against Kilmarnock last time out, their points total so far this term belies some promising displays.
Archibald’s side were perhaps unlucky not to beat Rangers in a 2-2 draw at the Energy Check Stadium last month, and also looked good in the recent meeting with Heart of Midlothian, which ended 1-1.
Even against the league’s top two – Celtic and Aberdeen – they’ve remained competitive. The Hoops won by a single goal in Maryhill in August, while the Jags were narrowly edged out 4-3 by the Dons in a thrilling fixture in Glasgow.
Add a 3-0 League Cup rout of St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park to that, and it’s obvious that Thistle can rack up the goals against far stronger opponents than Dundee. The 7/5 on offer for Partick Total Goals: 2+ looks well worth a flutter.
Dark Blues struggling on their travels
Despite a decent home record this term, Neil McCann’s men have been pretty ropey on their travels. They’ve managed just one point from five away games to date, conceding a hefty 11 goals in the process and scoring just three.
Having shipped four goals at Ibrox and suffered a 3-0 defeat at Hamilton Academical, their fortunes look unlikely to improve on Saturday’s trip to the Energy Check Stadium.
That’s especially true when their opponents have Kris Doolan in their ranks. The 30-year-old has scored in four of his last five meetings against the Dee, and looks well priced in the Anytime Goalscorer market at 19/10.
In the match betting, Partick Thistle are 13/10 for victory, with the Dark Blues 21/10 and 11/5 on offer for the draw.
