Scott Brown reckons the sheer strength of Celtic’s squad is the main reason there has been minimal transfer activity in the east end of Glasgow.
Manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed the permanent capture of Odsonne Edouard from Paris Saint-Germain. And they’ve also added Scott Bain as a back-up goalkeeper on a free transfer from Dundee.
But the Celtic captain feels the £9million signing of Edouard is already looking like brilliant business after his start to the season.
The Frenchman is 3/1 to be top scorer in the 2018-19 Ladbrokes Premiership and the Hoops unveil the flag this Saturday against Livingston.
Brown said: “I think it’s a sign of how strong the squad is that the manager has not gone into the transfer market.
“I feel it’s one of the best Celtic squads I have been involved in.
“We’ve got so much pace all over the team now and it’s a big part of our game. Scott Sinclair and James Forrest have started so well and Edouard looks a totally different player from last year.
“He looks fitter, sharper, stronger and has a proper eye for goal. It’s been a breath of fresh air.”
3-1 up from the first leg at Parkhead, Celtic head to Trondheim in northern Norway where they hope to complete the job on Rosenborg this Wednesday.
The Hoops will be looking to qualify for the third qualifying round of the Champions League where they will meet AEK Athens. And Brown feels Celtic can pick them off on the break to seal the deal.
He said: “I felt some of the football we played in the second half last week against Rosenborg was exceptional and we deserved our win.
“Now we’re going over to Norway and the circumstances will be different but they will have to come out and we’ve got the players that can open them up.”
You can get 7/2 on Celtic winning the Treble this season but the skipper was coy about a third clean sweep.
He simply said: “The aim this season is to make sure we go as far as we can in all competitions.
“We want to come through the Champions League qualifiers and get into the group phase and also get off to a good start in the league this weekend.
“We expect there will be challenges from Aberdeen, Hibs and Hearts – and Rangers have brought a lot of new players in so we will see what they will do.”
