While the media focus may be on Scotland’s visit to Wembley tonight, there’s still a flurry of huge games north of the border, with promotion battles, relegation tussles and proud records all put to the test in the Ladbrokes SPFL.
Here are three fascinating storylines to keep your eyes on this weekend.
Promotion contenders look to edge tight fixture
Hibernian may be sitting pretty at the top of Ladbrokes League Two, but they’re unlikely to have an easy ride against Falkirk.
Always a tight fixture, four of the last six meetings have ended as score draws, while the other two have been settled by a single goal – with one victory apiece.
We reckon the Bairns could end the three-game unbeaten run that Neil Lennon’s men are on, with another score draw offering the best value at 4/1.
Blue Toon look to extend amazing stat
The Peterhead fans making the 362-mile round trip to Hampden Park will be in confident mood ahead of their latest clash with Queen’s Park. After all, the Aberdeenshire club have won their last nine meetings with the Spiders.
The visitors have scored 18 times in that period, conceding just three times in the process – with the crowning glory of that head-to-head record a 5-0 victory back in 2013.
Jim McInally’s men are temptingly priced to make it ten in a row against the Glaswegian outfit at 7/5, while the 125/1 for them to repeat that 5-0 margin could be worth a flutter, with Queen’s having shipped four at Airdrieonians in recent weeks.
Citizens on course to reward home faithful
Rewind a fortnight, and Edinburgh City looked to have a huge battle on their hands to avoid bottom spot in Ladbrokes League Two.
Since then though, they’ve taken a point off table-topping Forfar Athletic at Station Park, secured a first ever Ladbrokes SPFL victory at Montrose, and chalked up a confidence-boosting Challenge Cup win against the aforementioned Loons.
Following two wins on the bounce, City will be keen to secure a first ever SPFL victory in front of the Meadowbank Stadium faithful. On recent form, 21/10 looks very generous for three points against an Annan Athletic side enduring a slump in form.
