The battle for promotion to the Ladbrokes Premiership steps up a notch on Tuesday night, as Greenock Morton host Dundee United at Cappielow. And both sides need to get into gear after difficult spells of form.
Morton are now winless in nine games, having fallen back down to earth after a superb start to 2017. And as for United, they need to up their game on the road, with the Terrors managing just one win from the past 13 away matches.
So, can either of them get the advantage in this first leg – or they likely to nullify one another? We reckon the latter.
Each of the last three clashes between this pair have ended level, with two 1-1 draws and a 0-0 stalemate.
That makes the 11/5 for honours-even here look like good value, with United 6/5 favourites and Morton 12/5 to record a first victory in 10 outings.
And 1-1 looks the more likely outcome here, at 5/1. Three of Morton’s last four home games have ended with that scoreline, while two of the Terrors’ last six have produced the same result.
If the visitors are to find the net, we reckon it’ll be thanks to Danish striker Thomas Mikkelsen. The Dane has scored six times in the Tangerines’ last nine games, and has been the last goalscorer on three of those occasions.
He’s 13/8 to find the net anytime, while 9/2 says he closes out the scoring.
At the other end, Lawrence Shankland has shone during a mediocre patch for the Ton. The Aberdeen loanee has registered in three of his last five appearances, and offers the best value for Morton in attack, at 23/10 to get among the goals.
Finally, there’s a 14/1 shot we think could leave backers very happy indeed.
In two of their last three games, the Cappielow club have led, only for the game to end level. And as for United, they’re no strangers to netting late on, with six of their last nine goals having come after the break.
So we think the 14s on offer for Half-Time/Full-Time: Morton/Draw definitely looks worth a flutter.
