Love Your Club: Andrew Davies – Ross County

Having started his career at Middlesbrough and taken in spells at Southampton, Stoke and Bradford among others, centre-back Andrew Davies is looking forward to an exciting new chapter at Ross County.

The 31-year-old is still settling into life at the Global Energy Stadium but has already got a good idea of what’s great about County and who makes the club tick.

Here he tells us why he loves his club…

Why do you love Ross County?

Love is a big word and I’ve only just signed for the club but I’ve heard very good things about it.

I’ve spoken to a few people who have played in Scotland already, I know a few of the boys and they all say good things. We’re an ambitious club with an ambitious manager and I’m looking forward to getting started with them really.

Describe the fans and what they mean to the club

From what I’ve heard the fans are great. It’s a small club with a small ground but they really get behind the team and I’m looking forward to playing in front of them when the season starts.

What’s the vibe like in the dressing room?

We’ve got a great set of lads and there’s a real togetherness about the boys. The manager’s built that in with the players he’s brought in. It’s kind of a new squad with a lot of players coming and going but from what I’ve seen everyone wants to win, which is important, we all want to do well for each other so it’s going to be exciting to start off.

Can you name a Ross County Backroom Hero?

We’ve got a kit man called Roddy, who by the sound of what the boys have said , has been following the club across the country for the last 15 years and doing pre-season tours and all that. He doesn’t get paid a penny either so he’s doing it all off his own back.

We all chipped in the other day to give him some money and he was over the moon. He wanted to get his grandkids some presents so that was a nice touch. To follow the club for that long and not get paid just shows how much he cares for the club.

What’s the best thing about being a Ross County footballer?

I love the way you get to travel. I’ve played a lot games in England for a lot of teams and been able to travel the country.

It’s nice now to come up to Scotland and play against different teams and see different grounds.
With pre-season too you get to travel. I’m 31 now so I’ve been playing for 12 years and have been able to see a lot of the world so that’s definitely one of the big positives.
