Wales’ woe against the southern hemisphere powerhouses continued last week with another agonising defeat to Australia but with Fiji in town this week Warren Gatland’s side can get back to winning ways.
It’s been an indifferent year for Welsh rugby union but they still come into this match as 1/33 favourites with Ladbrokes.
Fiji have enjoyed some recent success against the Welsh but are still ranked as 12/1 outsiders for victory but with the win-draw-win market not appealing, Oliver Yew has come up with three alternative bets for the action in Cardiff.
While we expect Wales to pick up a much needed win they won’t have it all their own way against the Pacific Islanders.
Warren Gatland’s men ran out 66-0 winners against Fiji when the sides last met at the 2011 World Cup but before that Wales could only manage a draw against Saturday’s opponents on their last visit to Cardiff back in 2010.
That came after an embarrassing 38-34 defeat to Fiji in the 2007 World Cup and Wales should underestimate Fiji at their peril.
After a disappointing defeat to Australia, Wales will be determined to bounce back in style at the Millennium Stadium.
With the likes of scrum-half Mike Phillips and fly-half Rhys Priestland back in the Welsh starting XV they will want to put on a performance with South Africa and New Zealand still to come in the coming weeks.
But as previously mentioned Fiji are a dangerous unit and with their pack now performing admirably, Wales will be in a tough battle – but one they should win.
Wales should be able to run in a few tries against Fiji and George North and Jamie Roberts will both be confident of repeating their scoring feats in Wales 66-0 win.
With two thirds of this treble in the bag (we hope) it falls to Alex Cuthbert to bring home the bacon and the Cardiff Blues winger has been in excellent form of late, getting himself on the scoresheet against the Australians.
