Politics: Sir Ed Davey 1/8 to be next Liberal Democrats leader

Sir Ed Davey, Lib Dem

Sir Ed Davey looks home and hosed as the next permanent leader of the Liberal Democrats, according to the latest odds from our traders.

Ahead of the ballot closing to party members on Wednesday evening, the bookies have Davey as the overwhelming odds-on favourite to emerge victorious at 1/8.

Following Jo Swinson’s resignation as a result of the December 2019 general election, Davey became interim co-leader and he seems to be the popular choice to fulfil the leadership role on a permanent basis.

Layla Moran stands an outside chance to topple the favourite and she is chalked up at 9/2 to cause an almighty eleventh hour upset in the race to be the next party leader.

Jessica O’Reilly of Ladbrokes said: “Davey has been the favourite since day one, and it’s going to take something special from Moran to be voted Lib Dem leader.”
