The Safety Net bank is being stretched this morning with Adrian Mannarino keeping us on our toes against Gilles Simon.
We’ve got £50 tied up in Simon beating Mannarino leaving us with £80.50 in the Safety Net bank, and £60 of that is going on Andy Roddick to beat Kevin Anderson today.
Simon and Mannarino will resume their second round tie at 1.00pm today and it will be a one set shoot-out that decides whether or not the Safety Net coffers are boosted, and we’re feeling the nerves with Simon showing his inconsistent side yesterday.
So while we fight the horrible feeling in the pit of our stomach, we’re looking ahead to today’s banker and we’re sticking with tennis once again.
There are six horses today that will start odds-on but we’ve decided to go against Barizan, Green Mining and Sovereign Spirit in the 6.30, 7.00 and 9.00 races at Fontwell, Notable Graduation in the last race at Leopardstown, Sun Tzu and Ajmal in the 6.40 and 7.40 at Uttoexter and Floral Bunny in the 1.30 at Newbury.
Instead we’re looking to Andy Roddick to show us what he is capable of on grass by beating South African Kevin Anderson today.
Roddick is 1/3 to beat Anderson and so we’re risking £60 of our £80.50 bank on the American, and with the Simon result lingering over us, we’re confident that Roddick can give us a boost.
The world number 10 beat Anderson in Brisbane earlier this year in their only meeting and as a former Queens winner, Roddick can use his grass court form to win today.
Anderson has won both of his Queens matches in straight sets but they were against the world number 130 and 124, but Anderson has lost seven of his 12 ATP Tour matches on grass.
Roddick loves grass and loves Queens, and while the American isn’t in the greatest of form, his return to this happy hunting ground will see the American flourish.
Bank: £80.50 (£50 tied up in Simon)
Today’s stake: £60
Best case scenario: £170.50
Worst case scenario: £20.50
Last Safety Net bet: Simon to beat Mannarino at 2/5 (tbd)
