For all of the success that James Bond films regularly harvest, winning Oscars has almost been given up on and 2/5 may prove a decent price that Skyfall is just another film that passes by without this recognition.

In terms of critical acclaim, Bond films are often nominated for awards, whether it be Academy Awards at the Oscars, awards at the BAFTAs or prizes at the Golden Globes, but these nominations fail to turn into trophies.

Casino Royale was the most successful in terms of nominations, but despite nine opportunities to secure some recognition, they all failed, including Best Sound, Best Editing and Best Actor in a Leading Role.

In fact, fans have to go back 47 years to find the last time that a Bond film was successful at an awards ceremony when Thunderball gained an Oscar for Best Visual Effects.

Over the years Bond films have been nominated for seven Oscars, with two of these nominations successful.

However, only the first two triumphed and there has not even been a nomination for an Oscar since Moonraker in 1979.

Optimism is high regarding Skyfall, notably because it is Adele that has performed the original song and her appreciation in the US should help in this regard.

It is 7/4 that Skyfall wins any Oscar, but punters would be best to take the 5/2 on offer that the winning Oscar is for Best Original Score, given that this is the only potential nomination with a chance of acclaim.

The awards take place in February next year and it is Best Visual Effects at 10/1 which is considered the only other chance of Skyfall Oscar glory.
