NFL Draft 2020: Everything you need to know

Published:

The NFL Draft 2020 may look a little different to how itwas planned due to ongoing social distancing rules – boat rides on thefountains of Bellagio were mooted but will now make way for a full virtual experience.

So, with stars like Tom Brady moving on already, it’s now time for the teams to get serious about their new recruits.

We’ve put together a one-stop guide to everything you needto know…

How does the NFL Draft work?

The draft is made up of seven rounds, with 32 draft picksper round or one pick per team each round, with the initial order being decidedby the previous season’s league standings.

However, it’s not always that simple as regular seasontransfers often contain the carat of a top end draft pick. This means you maysee some teams go a few rounds without selecting and others with multiple picksin a single round.

There’s also the possibility of trades being called beforeor even during the Draft so when a team might not actually make a pick when youexpect it to happen.

When is the NFL Draft?

The NFL Draft 2020 begins on Thursday 23rd April and ends onSaturday 25th April 2020.

Round one takes place on Thursday, with the second and thirdrounds on Friday before the final four rounds on Saturday.

  • Round 1: Thursday, April 23
  • Rounds 2-3: Friday, April 24
  • Rounds 4-7: Saturday, April 25

Which teams need recruits?

The first pick should be made by the CincinnatiBengals who look all set to select 2019 Heisman Trophy and NationalChampionship winning quarter back Joe Burrows straight from LSU.

There’s the expectation that Washington Redskinsmay pick up Ohio State’s pass rusher Chase Young. Young has shown his quality after recording 16.5 sacks and 21tackles for loss during the 2019 season. Add to that being the only HeismanTrophy finalist who didn’t play quarterback.

It’d besurprising if Redskins didn’t want to add Young to a defence that was 27th inyards and points allowed.

After they saw Brady and Cody Kessler go on to pastures new, the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says ‘everybody knows’ the New England Patriots will go after a quarterback.

Coach Bill Belichick has drafted 11 quarterbacks in his time with the Pats, but will he use his premium pick to draft a replacement?

Super Bowlfinalist San Francisco 49ers may use their draft pick from the IndianapolisColts to pick up a wide receiver after Emmanuel Sanders left in the off-season.

Not everythingis as rosy as you think for Super Bowl winners Kansas City Chiefs and they’llhope to bag a highly-rated cornerback to bolster their roster – following theloss of Kendall Fuller to the Redskins.

How can I watchthe NFL Draft?

All three dayswill be broadcast on Sky Sports Action with a build-up show on Thursday April23rd from 6PM and the first picks expected from 1AM.
