The final day of the Dante Festival is upon us and we’re hoping to bring the curtain down on the York spectacular with a few wonderful winners.
Yesterday’s original tips fell by the wayside with So Mi Dar and Firmament both pulled out on the day and replaced with Queen’s Trust and Top Notch Tonto respectively. Enough said there.
With regards to Friday’s action, the Yorkshire Cup, part of the British Champions Series, is the feature contest.
Sir Michael Stoute has an enviable record in the race and his Dartmouth will be tough to shake off.
The latest renewal, and three other events form part of an intriguing ITV Racing card.
Here’s our take on proceedings…
This isn’t a straightforward handicap to predict but Gibbs Hill looks a very backable prospect given what we’ve seen so far.
The Roger Varian-trained four-year-old was a ready winner on his seasonal reapperance on the All Weather at Wolverhampton, building on his winning handicap debut last June.
That win at Sandown came on soft ground and this progressive charge looks more than capable of dealing with conditions and his latest rivals.
We’re always quick to latch on to a Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-old and there’s plenty to like about Fidaawy, a winner at Doncaster last time out.
He’s also had recent Victoria Cup victor Fastnet Tempest in behind so he’s clearly smart but we’re siding with the market and putting our faith in the Varian-Andrea Atzeni partnership.
In the absence of Princess De Lune, Dancing Breeze is the obvious pick having outrun odds of 15/2 to score well at Newmarket on debut.
This Coronation Stakes entry looks open to more improvement and we’re backing her to get the job done again here.
On Her Toes has more experience and shouldn’t be underestimated but John Gosden’s runner looks to have the makings of a class filly.
EDIT – Princess De Lune was the original selection, now a Non Runner.
This looks a fiendish puzzle and one where we’re quite happy to plump for a runner at bigger odds.
The Jo Hughes-trained Get Even will find this tougher than the race she won last time out at Wolverhampton but the form of that contest suggests she might not be too far away.
The progressive recent Chester winner Yogi’s Girl came ninth of ten in that Wolves race with the third subsequently finishing in behind today’s market leader, Main Desire, at Nottingham.
If our pick can kick on again then there’s every chance she’ll feature prominently on the Knavesmire.
ITV Racing Tips:
14:20 York – Get Even EW
14:55 York – Dancing Breeze, Princess De Lune now a NR
