Wednesday’s race of the day: We look at the 16:55 at Leopardstown

There’s plenty of Racing on the way this Wednesday, with cards at Southwell, Musselburgh, Tipperary and Kempton’s all-weather.

But our pick of the day comes from the eight-race meet over at Leopardstown, the Group 3 Derrinstown Stud Fillies Stakes at 16:55.

Nine hotshot three-year-olds are poised to contest the 1m dash, with Aidan O’Brien’s So Wonderful  at the top of the betting.

Though she’s yet to win from 10 starts, she’s shown she can comfortably equip herself in prime company, having run to third in the Irish Guineas and fourth in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot already this year.

So Wonderful’s biggest challengers for victory should come from the quartet of Know It All, Celestial Object, Tango and Amma Grace.

Johnny Murtagh’s Know It All impressed on her seasonal bow earlier this month, with a fine run to second in the Leopardstown Fillies Trial Stakes, beating both Tango and Celestial Object en route. That course experience could also prove key as she steps up in trip to a mile for the first time.

Tango will have to turn the tide if she’s to give AP O’Brien another winner. The No Nay Never filly followed up a run to 10th in the aforementioned Fillies Stakes with a poor run to eighth in the 5 1/2f Polonia Stakes at Naas two weeks ago when 9/2 favourite.

So perhaps it’s Amma Grace who will take it to So Wonderful.  Dermot Weld’s entry is a course and distance winner, doing so back in October.

She made her seasonal bow over 1m 2f at Leopardstown less than a fortnight ago. And her promising run to fourth, fading towards the post, may suggest dropping her back to 1m is the right way to go this time around, while she’ll better for blowing off the cobwebs with that run too.

Among those hoping for a bit more of the wet stuff will be Ridenza, for Michael Halford.

That leaves Faire Croire (20/1) and Schroders Mistake (40/1) as your outside hopes.
