There’s more racing from America on the way this Friday, and our trader Matt Trounce has eyed up the pick of the bunch from the card at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
The first of the feature races on the card is the Arkansas Breeder’s Championship at 22:06. This is the richest race of the season available for horses bred in Arkansas and a strong field of 11 go to post.
The likely favourite is K J’s Nobility, who is trying to improve on his second in the race last year.
He looks in better form this season though and won his prep race last time when taking the $100,000 Nodouble over 6f at the track in March. That was especially taking as he is better over this 2f longer trip and he should be very hard to beat.
The second stakes race on the card is the $80,000 Gardenia stakes at 22:38. Gingham represents hall of famer Bob Baffert who has had more runners than any other trainer at this Oaklawn Meet, due to the suspension of racing at Santa Anita.
Baffert has been bullish in the press recently saying she’s working extremely well and is getting better with age. She holds outstanding claims of giving him another winner at a meeting where he is already six from eleven.
The highlight of the card though is $400,000 Fantasy Stakes at 23:09 which draws a field that the Kentucky Oaks would be proud of.
Current market leader is Venetian Harbor who is trying to lay claim to being the best of her generation. However, in the field is British Idiom who was the best of her generation last year.
She was unbeaten at two and she won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies to secure the division’s Eclipse Award. She lost her unbeaten record when second on her comeback run but she should strip much fitter for the run.
