Tuesday’s American Racing action comes from Nebraska with a nine-race card on the dirt at Fonner Park.
Our man on the trading floor, Jonathan Priddey, takes a look at the evening’s meeting.
Grizzled veteran rider Armando Martinez remains the leading jockey of the Spring Meeting but last week’s big story was the emergence of young jockey Dakota Wood.
The Oklahoma native won five consecutive races last week at prices of 13/8, 9/4, 20/1, even-money and 9/1.
Supported by local trainers including Marissa Black, Mark Hibdon and Stetson Mitchell, Wood is a rising force at Fonner Park and has another solid book of eight rides on Tuesday night.
Wood’s Tuesday rides
He’ll look forward to a good chance straight off the bat as he gets the leg-up on forecast favourite Flashin The Cash (22:00), who has a great opportunity to break his maiden.
Perhaps Wood could bookend the card with winners as Bandwidth (01:36) made a perfectly respectable Fonner Park debut when second in an allowance event a fortnight ago on his first start for Ronnie Riggs.
With a hot jockey aboard and only a little more improvement required, this pair should be in the mix in the last.
Dakota Wood booked rides: Flashin The Cash (22.00), Shade Of Justice (22.54), Color Me Behold (23.21), Spoon Boss (23.48), Unshackled Cross (00.15), Mallory’s Bandit (00.42), Dixie Flyer (01.09), Bandwidth (01.36).
