Stradivarius 13/8 to win a fourth Ascot Gold Cup; 33/1 for the Arc

Stradivarius romped home to win a third Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on Thursday, and our traders now go as short as 13/8 that the super stayer returns to land a fourth in 2021.

John Gosden’s star defied the soft ground to demolish the opposition by 10l and move one behind the legendary Yeats, who won four Golds Cups in a row from 2006 to 2009.

Owner Bjorn Nielsen has yet to indicate whether the winning machine will return to Ascot in an attempt to equal the record, although it must surely be firmly at the front of his mind.

Nevertheless, it’ll be a fourth crack at the Sussex Stakes up next for Stradivarius before connections have their next big decision to make; whether he goes for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

The Arc is run over a considerably shorter trip than the six-year-old is used to, but thanks to his incredible finishing speed, there are plenty who fancy the Ascot hero for Europe’s most prestigious race.

Our traders still aren’t so sure and go 33/1 about his chances in a possible Arc bid later this year.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Stradivarius put a smile back on punters’ faces this afternoon after a stunning performance in the Ascot Gold Cup and the odds suggest he is on the way to emulating Yeats with a fourth win at the meeting next year.”
