It could well prove a day to follow the favourites at the St Leger meeting, with the claims of Maureen and The Lark looking especially strong in the two Group contests on the card.

Not only are both down in class from prior efforts this season, both will appreciate the rain at Doncaster, with the win double currently paying at 7/1.

13:40 – Inyordreams @ 12/1

Les Gar Gan is a worthy favourite as she retains the same mark of 74 from which she could not have been any more unlucky at Hamilton last time, when consistently shut out when needing a run.

If she finds daylight this time, she will be tough to beat.

But, Inyordreams looks a big each-way price given she has only been raised 2lb from a victory over this distance at Thirsk last time on similar ground, where she was arguably also drawn on the wrong side of the course.

14:10 – Maureen @ 2/1

Not only is Maureen down in class here after four consecutive Group 1 outings, but the rain has additionally helped her cause, given that she has triumphed on both career starts on a surface described as good to soft.

Winning Express is the obvious danger having not only finished ahead of Maureen in the 1,000 Guineas earlier this season, but she also received 3lb from the favourite.

14:40 – Tanzeel @ 6/1

Ben Hall is the highest-rated horse in the race, but the fact that he failed to fire on his first start at 6f last time is a negative, while Coulsty is yet to win on three starts at the distance.

Therefore, preference is for Tanzeel to build on a solid victory last time, given that he is jockey Paul Hanagan’s choice and has Group 1 entries for later in the season.

Fellow Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned entrant Mawfoor may prove one for the each-way thieves.

15:15 – The Lark @ 7/4

Ladbrokes are offering the top price on The Lark and the more rain the better for the horse that finished third in the Epsom Oaks this season, despite not getting the clearest run.

On ratings, she is 6lb better than the rest of the field and the forecast looks a real possibility here with the improving Seal Of Approval to chase her home.
