Santiago 3/1 favourite for the Irish Derby; Dawn Patrol backed in

Aidan O’Brien will fire six darts at the 2020 Irish Derby as he bids to win the race for a record 14th time.

The Master of Ballydoyle is always well represented in the classic contest and will pin his main hope on Queen’s Vase winner Santiago, who is the 3/1 favourite.

He’s followed by stablemate and King Edward VII runner-up Arthur’s Kingdom at 5/1, ahead of Crossfirehurricane for son Joseph O’Brien at 6/1.

Elsewhere, Dawn Patrol has been the subject of support and is now 10/1 from 14/1, while Fiscal Rules and Gold Maze are the only two not trained by an O’Brien to be given any realistic chance in the betting.

Jockey Padraig Beggy, who pulled off a 33/1 boil over aboard Sovereign 12 months ago, will take the ride on the lightly-raced Order Of Australia at the same-price this time around.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Aidan O’Brien’s dominance over the Irish Derby looks set to continue this weekend after he declared another strong hand of six runners.”

She continued, “Santiago is the one they have to beat, although some punters have been getting behind Dawn Patrol instead.”
