Pyledriver favourite for the St Leger; Ghaiyyath odds-on in Ireland

There’s a huge afternoon of Racing across both sides of the Irish Sea this Saturday, with Pyledriver and Ghaiyyath the two names at the head of the market for the St Leger and the Irish Champion Stakes respectively.

William Muir’s inmate leads the betting at 11/4 for the final classic of the season at Doncaster ahead of the Aidan O’Brien-trained Santiago at 3/1 and impressive Geoffrey Freer Stakes scorer Hukum at 7/2.

Meanwhile, Ghaiyyath is the one they all need to beat in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown with Charlie Appleby’s colt now likely to miss the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp next month.

The Godolphin star, who has already won the Coronation Cup, Coral-Eclipse and the Juddmonte International this season, is rated an 8/11 chance to add the Irish Group 1 to his haul.

Perennial nearly-horses Japan and Magical are available at 4/1 apiece, with Sottsass (8/1), Armory (33/1) and Le De Fury (66/1) completing the six-runner field.
