Both Mokalif and Anton Dolin duly obliged for the punters who heeded the advice of racing’s best hacks yesterday and with eight race cards on the bill today, there’s plenty of racing to get your teeth into.
The Star’s Peter Thickett, one of three men who tipped up 3/1 winner Anton Dolin yesterday, is in one purple patch that is anything but hazy as he looks to nap consecutive winner number 10 today.
2.20 Sandown: Backtrade – 5/2
Thickett is the only man of the 50 tipsters competing in the Racing Post’s naps competition to have napped Backtrade today, but considering his incredible run which is returning £14.39 to the £1 this month, he has to be respected.
It’s a tricky race to call with three juveniles – including a Richard Hannon two-year-old – making their debut, but it’s Ed McMahon’s Verbeeck that heads the betting at 6/4.
Hannon’s record with two-year-old’s is probably the best in the business and El Diamante has to be respected at 5/1, but everything Peter Thickett touches at the moment turns to gold and punters should follow the in-form tipster.
7.55 Goodwood: Zain Shamardal – 3/1
Zain Shamardal is the most popular pick among the 50 tipsters with three naps from Bob Downing of the Shropshire Star, Lambourn of the Racing Post and Computerman of The Express.
Brian Meehan’s three-year-old is the 3/1 second-favourite behind Club Oceanic (2/1) and having been raised two pounds for his win at Newmarket in May, many believe he’s well worth a crack having been upped in trip.
Club Oceanic is the main danger having won at Goodwood on his last start and his course experience could prove vital, but Jeremy Noseda’s colt is up six pounds for that win and the weight could tell against the progressive Zain Shamardal.
4.25 York: Mr Optimistic – 8/1
Avoid Mr Optimistic at all costs as Chris Wright of the Liverpool Daily Post is on a 23-run losing streak.
