We head to Ayr for the pick of the pundits today and there are plenty of reasons to feel confident about the most napped horse from today’s British Press.
Garry Owen of the Daily Record, The North of the Racing Post, Rockavon of the Sunday Mail and Spotlight of the Racing Post have all napped Monel in the 17:00 at Ayr today, and three of them can boast strong form in the Racing Post naps competition.
Both Owen and The North can boast a profit for their monthly selections and Spotlight is on a two-nap streak.
Considering Spotlight is towards the bottom of the Racing Post naps competition table, that’s decent form although Rockavon’s form is a cause for concern.
17:00 Ayr: Monel – 11/4
Monel will be chasing a hat-trick of wins when 12 runners line up for Class 5 handicap over six furlongs but Jim Goldie’s three-year-old is stepping up in class from his last two runs.
His two previous wins have come over this course and distance and while the horse is up another 6lbs for his win last time, there is every reason for the pundits to feel confident.
It’s a strong race and there are a number of runners who can upset Monel’s bid for victory, but we know the horse can handle both the soft and firm ground at Ayr and today’s good ground should be no problem for him.
His last performance in a Class 5 race was disappointing, finishing eight out of ten runners, but that was before Monel bagged two wins in a row and having found the winning formula, there is every reason to believe he can up his game today.
There are dangers and there are a number of horses who have previously won at Ayr.
Beckermet, Ingelby Arch and Tadalavil have all won over course and distance and Tadalavil, who is back to a mark similar to that of his Class 4 handicap win at Ayr this time last year looks plenty of each-way value at 16/1.
