Glorious Goodwood takes centre stage this week in the horse racing world and the pundits are more than happy to take on the Goodwood card.
With a number of high class runners running at the Chichester course today, napping a winner will not be the easiest task but the pundits aren’t shying away from the challenge.
Strong Suit, Forte Del Marmi and War Crown all feature prominently in the table but the 14:35 at Goodwood is the race that we are focusing on.
Fiorente (11/10) and Slumber (4/1) are set to battle to the line in the mile and a half Gordon Stakes and the pundits are split with both horses taking three naps each in the table.
It’s the form of the pundits napping Fiorente though that make Sir Michael Stoute’s horse the pick of the pundits, although our own preview of the Gordon Stakes would make Slumber the better bet.
Karl Hedley of The Irish Field is firmly behind Fiorente today and considering he tops the naps competition with a £27.79 return on a £1 stake this year and a £12.00 return this month, he has to be respected.
Chris Goulding of the Sunday Express has sat atop of the table but currently finds himself in fourth partly thanks to a run of two days without a winner, and he is napping Slumber today.
As the naps competition proves, separating both Fiorente and Slumber is proving difficult which further highlights the gulf in price for both horses in the Gordon Stakes.
At the odds Slumber has to be the better bet and while Fiorente certainly has plenty of ability, his 11/10 price is too short to consider backing.
Slumber should run a strong race and should he win, his current 50/1 quote for the St Leger will shorten dramatically.
