Dettori tips worthy favourite Blue Bunting to shine in Oaks

Blue Bunting has already won the 1000 Guineas this season, but Frankie Dettori believes that the Oaks is a race that will be even more well-suited to the filly.

Sent off at 16/1 at Newmarket, Blue Bunting came with a late run to land the spoils from Together and is now looking for a Classic double with a victory at Epsom.

Blue Bunting is a much shorter 2/1 in the Oaks odds, but Dettori believes the step up in trip should be no hindrance to the horse based on her pedigree.

Dettori told the Guardian: “I think we can do the double because the surprise was winning the Guineas.

“We weren’t really sure she had the speed for a mile-long race. We thought she was more of a mile-and-a-half filly, which is perfect for the Oaks.”

Dettori added that if given a choice from the whole Oaks line-up then he would not swap his mount for anything else and feels that Blue Bunting is a worthy favourite for Epsom victory.

Another factor in Blue Bunting’s favour is that the favourite has gone on to win the Oaks in five of the last ten years, while Look Here in 2008 is the only winner in this time that has been sent off at double-figure odds.

Meanwhile, Godolphin already have experience of completing the 1000 Guineas and Oaks double after Kazzia won both races in 2002.

However, Blue Bunting will not have it all her own way in the Oaks, particularly with Wonder Of Wonders expected to run a big race for Aidan O’Brien.

Wonder Of Wonders is 3/1 to win the Oaks and heads to Epsom having triumphed in the Cheshire Oaks on her final start.

Next in the Oaks betting are recent Irish 1000 Guineas winner Misty For Me at 6/1, which is the same price as Havant, who disappointed behind Blue Bunting at Newmarket, but can be forgiven for one bad run.
