It has been a quiet week and could be a quiet month with no rain about. There are plenty of small fields, including on Saturday when I will be at Kempton.
I have three rides and a good one to start with in Charbel (2.05) who I rode in the Peterborough Chase last time at Huntingdon where he was very good.
If he could put up a similar performance I would like to think he will go very close.
Top Notch is obviously a very good performer on his day. But Charbel travelled and jumped very well in front last time and if he can do that again he would be hard to beat.
I ride Doux Pretender (2.40) in the Lanzarote Hurdle. He was beaten over three miles at Cheltenham last time where it got very soft.
He was a bit too free early and pulled very hard. Tackling that trip for the first time on the wrong ground was probably a step too far for him.
He is back in trip now and on better ground. His run before at Ascot when he won was good and I would like to think he can give a good account of himself.
It is a competitive handicap hurdle but on his Ascot run you could give him a very good chance.
I think there is a good race in Barney Dwan (3.15). I am surprised he hasn’t won a better race.
His last run was probably a bit disappointing but he was running well at Kempton one day as a novice and fell.
The track will suit him as will the ground. Hopefully he will run a big race. He has sheepskins on so I would be optimistic.
Charbel would be my best chance of the trio.
