It’s day three of the Festival and I am involved in four of the day’s races.
I am not riding in the JLT but have watched the top two, Defi Du Seuil and Lostintranslation, battling it out all season. I think Lostintranslation will win around Cheltenham where the track suits him.
Black Mischief (2.10) is my ride in the Pertemps Final. He won nicely at Haydock and ran okay at Wincanton the next time. Unfortunately the ground would be a big negative for him. He wants better ground and will probably struggle on this ground.
The trip looks right for Monalee, a horse I know well, in the Ryanair and so does the ground.
He has been in good form, winning last time for Rachael Blackmore, when I couldn’t ride him, and was second in the Savills Chase for me. He is the one to beat.
Frodon has been in great form, loves the ground and jumps brilliantly so he has to run a big race as well.
I am hoping for a big run from Black Op (3.30) in the Stayers’ Hurdle. He produced a good run in the Cleeve Hurdle and he had a good blow after that so I think he has improved a lot from that.
I am hoping he will run a good race and is a very good each way bet.
Faugheen is the one we still have to beat on form. He is a classy horse and he was going all right behind Apple’s Jade when he fell at Leopardstown.
If he had stood up there and run a big race he would be a lot shorter price than he is. I could see him running well.
The ground will be a bit of an unknown for Kalondra (4.10). He was going okay in the BetVictor Gold Cup until he ended up unseating down the back. He probably lost his confidence a bit.
Neil Mulholland’s horses are in much better form now and he has had quite a few winners in the last fortnight. The horse seems in very good form, he is well handicapped and I think he will run a big race.
I am on one of Willie Mullins’s in the Mares’ Novice. Eglantine Du Seuil (4.50) is a bit of an unknown.
If you go on the form of her last run when she was third behind Triplicate and Aramon it actually looks very good.
They are two graded horses and she was only a length and a half behind Aramon. It does read well and she could improve on that.
She hasn’t run since September but she will love the ground and she stays further than two miles.
At a big price I can see her running into the money. She is a forgotten mare because she hasn’t run for so long.
