Ladbrokes King George VI: Cyrname and Clan des Obeaux head the field

Whisper it quietly, but the 2020 Ladbrokes King George VI Chase from Kempton really isn’t that far away now – and anticipation is building!
The renowned Boxing Day showdown is a little over a month away, and we’ve got the latest odds for the 24 hopefuls entered this year.
They’ll be bidding to join a prodigious list of King George VI winners, with a roster full of legendary runners including Wayward Lad, Desert Orchid, Best Mate, Kauto Star, Silviniaco Conti and many more.
Who’ll win the three-mile Ladbrokes King George VI this year? We’ll find out soon enough, and to whet the appetite, we’ve run through the top six in the betting below.

CYRNAME – 11/4
The favourite in the betting and the favourite for good reason. Paul Nicholls’ Cyrname is the one everyone’s talking about after a stupendous run to win the Charlie Hall at Wetherby last weekend.
It was a mighty performance from the eight-year-old, one many didn’t think possible after a nasty fall at Ascot back in February.
What’s more, victory in the Charlie Hall proved Cyrname can do the business over three miles, having been comfortably beaten by 21l by Clan Des Obeaux in the King George last December.
Nicholls’ charge will have an extra three weeks to prepare this time around too, and the manner of his victory at Wetherby will have set plenty of tongues wagging for Boxing Day success.
CLAN DES OBEAUX – 3/1
Many will think this is Nicholls’ race to lose, with Cyrname’s stable-mate Clan des Obeaux looking to become only the second horse since Desert Orchid in 1990 to win the King George VI three times.
It will be fascinating to see if the eight-year-old can hold off what appears to be a rejuvenated Cyrname this Boxing Day.
Cyrname may have the momentum with that Wetherby victory, but Clan Des Obeaux’s fans will point to his prior Kempton success, and his much more established ability over the three miles. Time will tell!
LOSTINTRANSLATION – 7/1
Can anyone get in amongst the Nicholls’ duo? Many will be looking to Colin Tizzard’s Lostintranslation to do just that.
Pulled-up in last year’s King George VI, the eight-year-old subsequently underwent wind surgery last winter, and returned with a fine run to third in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
We may have to wait a little longer to see what shape the eight-year-old is in, with a potential seasonal bow at the Betfair Chase later this month likely to give more clues.
ALLAHO – 8/1
While the above trio all have prior King George VI experience, 8/1 shot Allaho will be heading onto new turf, having not run at Kempton before.
The six-year-old impressed last winter though, dominating the Beginners’ Chase at Fairyhouse, before narrowly missing out to Champ and Minella Indo in the RSA at Cheltenham. Many will feel there’s more to come from Willie Mullins’ charge.
CHAMP – 12/1
Speaking of Champ, Nicky Henderson’s eight-year-old is a proven winner, and has won each of his last four completed races.
Was superb in winning the RSA back in March, but it remains to be seen what Henderson’s plans are for Champ and the King George VI this December.
