International Racing Betting Tips: All eyes on Aalborg and Jarlsberg

| 20.04.2020

While most European racing has been on hold during the COVID-19 crisis, Sweden continues to tack up.

In the past month Bjorn Goop has been our makeshift Frankie Dettori and unbeaten trotter Upset Face has taken the place of Enable for racing fans.

But now Swedish racing has company on the schedule with Denmark and Norway beginning their racing seasons and our man John Priddey takes a look…

Top Jockey

Danish venue Aalborg hosts harness racing behind closed doors on Monday. The superbly named Knud Monster is a major player in Danish harness racing with a strong book of drives to look forward to.

Monster looks to have particularly solid chances with the hat-trick seeking Ebay Holmsminde (14.50) and Aalborg specialist Danger Dynamite (15.30).

Local trainer Karsten Holm gave an enigmatic response to the Danish press when asked about the chances of his prolific winner Erik (15.10).

Holm admitted that Erik had missed some of his planned training and has been somewhat difficult to bring up to full fitness, but nonetheless confidently said ‘the optimistic is great’.

Make of that what you will!

Knud Monster booked drives: Ebay Holmsminde (14.50), Danger Dynamite (15.30), Katy Perry (15.50), Cotton Eye Joe (16.10), Deceni Langborg (16.30).

A glimpse at Norway

Racing in Norway is also beginning to get into full flow. Jarlsberg kicked off their season on Sunday evening and the same venue lays on six more races on a Monday twilight card.

Eirik Høitomt was the leading driver at Jarslberg in 2019, continuing a impressive record at his ‘home track’ Høitomt is the dominant figure in Norwegian harness racing and reached the incredible milestone of 5000 career winners in January.

Gunnar Eggen’s record tally of 5546 Norwegian winners is well within the 50-year-old’s sights, he’ll be looking to edge a little closer tomorrow. Highlights among Høitomt’s full book of six rides include the last-time-out winners Spang Sirius (18.15) and Kleppe Nido (19.45).

Eirik Høitomt booked drives: Gloriuese Roussac (17.55), Spang Sirius (18.15), Oz (18.40), Langlands Balder (19.02), Easy Winner (19.24), Kleppe Nido (19.45).
