The Spring Meet at Gulfstream continues Saturday with a bumper twelve-race card of claimers and maidens.
Our Racing expert has picked out who to look out for…
Tyler Gaffalione is the jockey to look out for on Saturday with ten booked rides at Gulfstream.
Having ridden a double on Thursday, leading jockey at the Spring Meet bids to further extend his lead over his nearest rival Luis Saez.
Thursday’s winners were numbers twenty and twenty-one for the Florida-born rider during this current meeting and he hit the board on seven of his nine mounts that afternoon.
Winner of last season’s Preakness Stakes aboard War Of Will, it will be a busy Saturday for the 25-year-old.
Tyler Gaffalione booked rides: Matcha (17:45), Markistan (18:15), Princess Carrigan (18:45), Holy Meister (19:46), Broadway Pete (20:17), Opus North (20:48), Brass Compass (21:21), Mintd (21:53), Causalistic (22:25), Lady Grace (22:57)
Todd Pletcher will undoubtedly feature amongst the leading trainers at the track again this year. He is the winner of a record sixteen Championship Meet titles at Gulfstream Park.
Now approaching 5,000 career winners, Pletcher has three good chances to add to that tally, all three ridden by the prolific Luis Saez, including Seize The Hay (20:48)
One trainer though who has begun the Spring Meet even faster than Pletcher is Saffie Joseph Jr. He has already bagged five winners from just twenty-four starts for a strike rate of 21% and has Perfect Revenge running in the 22:25.
Barbados born, Joseph Jr won his native country’s Triple Crown when he was just twenty-two, before leaving to join the US training ranks in 2011.
Over the last four years the Barbadian’s career has blossomed. Last year’s figure of 95 winners was by far his best season yet with the highlight September’s Pennsylvania Derby win for Math Wizard who provided Joseph Jr with his first Grade One winner.
Todd Pletcher trained runners: Rag Tag (19:46), Seize The Hay (20:48), Always Shopping (21:53)
Saffie Joseph Jr trained runner: Perfect Revenge (22:25)
