Gulfstream Park presses on with its Spring Meetwith another ten races on Friday night and our trader Ian Rozzier gives us thelowdown.

The highlight of the evening is the 21:46pm allowance event, where four of the twelve-strong field are last-time-out winners.

Leading Jockeys

Tyler Gaffalione and Luis Saez look set to fight out Top Jockey honours through the Spring Meet. The former edges it with a 19-14 lead in winners against Saez so far, but it’s still early days.

Saez is an established winning machine statesideand has hit the 200 winner landmark every year since 2015 including a mightytally of 274 in 2019. Saez has a chance to hit a personal best in 2020 as he ismaintaining a strike rate of 20% with 90 winners from 453 rides.

But in the opposing corner is rising star Gaffalione who’s booting in the winners at arapid rate, despite only graduating from the apprentice ranks in 2015. TheFlorida native has notched more than 1000 wins since the start of 2016.

Tyler Gaffalione booked rides: Harmonic Thunder (18:00), Golden Pal (18:30), Fantastic Fraction (19:39), Lake Parima (20:11), Mihos (20:43), Wild One Forever (21:15), Notorious R B G (21:46), Fortin Hill (22:17) & Maverick Kitten (22:47)

Luis Saez booked rides: Halfy (18:00), Bailey (18:34), Garner State Park (19:39), Philly Special (20:11), Sniper Shot (20:43), Souper Shenanigan (21:15), Shippy (21:46), Moonoverseba (22:17), Cowtown (22:47)

Leading Trainer

Wesley Ward has had a quiet start to the meet but this is the time of year where his horses traditionally hit form. The charismatic trainer has saddled a total of 10 winners at Royal Ascot since he started sending horse over from North America in 2019.

This feat included seven injuvenile races. So, it’ll be no surprise if he unleashes plenty of precocioustwo-year-olds in the coming weeks including Golden Pal (18:34).

Wesley Ward trained runners: Golden Pal (18:34), Herculina (19:39) &Jades Gelly (21:46)

Horse To Watch

Chad Brown’s Fortin Hill (22:17has been difficult to keep sound but this looks like a good opportunity to maintain his 100% record.

The Mucho Macho Man colt has madethe most of his two opportunities to date winning by over five lengths on hissole juvenile start.

He’s returning from another absence, but the booking of Tyler Gaffalione suggests that connections mean business andhe is expected to outclass his rivals before going on to betterthings.
