Four winning favourites pile the misery on us at Goodwood

Published:

It was a miserable day for our trading department at Glorious Goodwood today as four jolies came steaming in.

John Gosden’s Stradivarius justified hot favouritism to win successive Goodwood Cups. The Ascot Gold Cup winner pipped Torcedor to win the feature race of the day.

The four-year-old is now 4/6 to land the Stayers’ Million bonus. And Gosden’s charge remains unchanged at 4/1 to win next year’s Gold Cup and retain his crown.

Elsewhere, Dark Vision hacked up to win the Vintage Stakes under Silvestre De Sousa. Mark Johnston’s two-year-old has been installed at 16/1 for the 2000 Guineas, where Calyx remains the 6/1 favourite.

In addition to those two winners, Alfarris was victorious in the opener for William Haggas. And David Elsworth’s Sir Dancealot took the Lennox Stakes honours.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Day one of the Qatar Goodwood Festival has left us licking our wounds as the first four favourites won. Stradivarius ensured there was no getting out of jail, as he was the worst result of the day.”

Day two beckons.

**Stradivarius

4/6 Stayers’ Million
