Enable odds-on to win the King George at Ascot this weekend

Enable has been backed in to odds-on favouritism to win a record-breaking third King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot this Saturday.

John Gosden’s wonder-mare is now 8/11 to retain the midsummer showpiece she won last season after out-battling Crystal Ocean in a race for the ages.

She enjoyed a sound prep-run in the Coral-Eclipse last month and is widely expected to hold Aidan O’Brien’s intended runners, who include Japan and Anthony Van Dyck.

The foremost of the Ballydoyle pair is rated a 3/1 chance, with third-favourite Magical a 10/3 shot, although it remains unclear whether she’ll be diverted to The Curragh.

Anthony Van Dyck is 12/1, with 2019 Irish Derby winner Sovereign now 12/1 from 25/1.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “It is one-way traffic for Enable ahead of the King George.”

She continued, “It looks like the race will cut up a bit, with the likes of Magical probably heading to the Curragh instead, so punters are putting their money on Enable who we know will run.”
