Punters studying the Derby betting should mark down Thursday May 12th in their calendar as York’s Dante Stakes is a leading trial for the biggest flat race of the year.
Carlton House (4/1), World Domination (5/1) and Seville (7/1) are the three horses that top the Derby odds and all three remain amongst the 11 entries for the Dante at the six-day stage.
Four of the last seven winners of the Derby took their place in York’s Dante Stakes and the three market leaders in the Derby betting will all be looking to emulate Workforce, Authorized, Motivator and North Light.
Workforce is the only one of the four that didn’t win the Dante Stakes and in doing so became the first horse beaten in the Dante to go on to win the Derby and the Dante is certainly the leading Derby trial.
Ladbrokes have Dante odds up already and like the Derby betting, Carlton House heads the Dante betting at 2/1 with World Domination available at 5/2 and Seville trading at 11/4.
Tom Queally has already been booked for the ride on World Domination for Thursday’s Dante and having won the first Classic of the season aboard Frankel in the 2000 Guineas, Queally will be hoping World Domination puts in a strong performance.
Having won his only start at Newbury in April, World Domination certainly looks the part and should he take his place in the Dante, punters will get another chance to see the Henry Cecil-trained three-year-old in action.
“World Domination was off for four days and missed a serious piece of work,” said Cecil.
“However, if he is going to be a Derby candidate he must run in the Dante and then we will see if he is Epsom material – or, otherwise, maybe Royal Ascot.”
A £10 double on World Domination winning the Derby would return £60. Sign up here for a Derby free bet worth up to £30.
