The JLT Novices’ Chase will get today’s proceedings underway and I will be opposing Yorkhill on day three of the Cheltenham Festival.
That’s not just because Willie is, so far, having a festival he’d rather forget. I’d have just preferred to have seen him run in the Arkle as I think that race would have suited him better.
I reckon Top Notch will prove too hard to beat, while Disko has shown his class on home turf and should run a massive race this afternoon.
The Pertemps Final is a quagmire as usual but you’d have to give Davy Russel’s mount, Presenting Percy, a fair chance for last year’s winning connections.
He’s exactly the type of progressive horse that wins this and his rider never leaves Cheltenham empty handed. Perhaps Percy will get him off the mark.
‘Gorgeous’ UDS can lead Mullins fightback in the Ryanair
Un De Sceaux has a big place in my heart and for some reason I just adore him. He’s gorgeous to look at, and although he always sweats up before his races, it doesn’t get in his way and he’s a horse with dogged determination.
The 2015 Arkle winner will need it to fend off Empire Of Dirt from Gordon Elliot’s yard, a possible Gold Cup contender last week, and representative of the sponsor who is yet to win this. I think it will elude him for another year running and Un De Sceaux will come to Willie’s rescue.
Jezki can cause an upset in the Stayers’
Speaking of horses I love, Jezki returns to the track and I really fancy him in the Stayers’ Hurdle.
Granted, he was beaten last time by Tombstone, who ran a stinker yesterday. But I’ll forgive him and he’ll love the going today. His trainer got one on the board yesterday and I’m hoping Jezki can win another Championship race at the festival.
Back the Beach in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle
And my last Irish fancy of the day is Airlie Beach in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. Her progress has surprised her trainer and I’m thinking she’ll continue to step up today in the 16:50.
Best of luck and I hope you enjoy St. Patrick’s Thursday at th the Cheltenham Festival.
I know I will!
