Native River has been slashed to 4/1 from 6/1 for this year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup, following his latest success in the Denman Chase at Newbury.
Colin Tizzard’s star saw off a game challenge from Le Mercurey with expected closest challenger Bristol De Mai finishing a disappointing third.
The latter has been pushed out to 33/1 from 14/1 for the Prestbury Park showpiece with jockey Daryl Jacob admitting that his charge failed to spark.
Bristol De Mai had been well-backed to take the Grade 2 contest in Berkshire but in the end he proved no match for Tizzard’s hardy stayer.
Elsewhere, High Bridge was left unchanged at 16/1 for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and 25/1 for the Neptune Novices’ Hurdle after winning the first race at Newbury.
However, Ballyandy is now 12/1 for the Supreme after winning the feature race of the day, the Betfair Hurdle
Meanwhile, Altior was slashed to 1/3 from 1/2 for the Racing Post Arkle Trophy after a superb victory in the Game Spirit Chase.
However, he has also been quoted at 5/1 for the Champion Chase, prompting our odds-compilers to price up a match-bet between Nicky Henderson’s star and Douvan.
We go 6/4 that Altior beats Douvan when they first meet over fences, with Douvan the 1/2 favourite.
Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Before today’s race it was Bristol De Mai who was attracting support for the Gold Cup, but attention has now turned to Native River after his victory today. Punters appear to be looking for an alternative to Thistlecrack and Native River seems to be the answer.”
