Battaash 4/5 for the Nunthorpe after smashing Goodwood course record

Brilliant Battaash remains the red-hot favourite for the Nunthorpe at York after landing his fourth successive King George Stakes in stunning fashion at Glorious Goodwood.

The Charlie Hills-trained sprinter is now 4/5 to win back-to-back renewals on the Knavesmire after obliterating his own course record on the Sussex Downs.

Battaash beat last season’s Prix de l’Abbaye winner Glass Slippers by just over 2l in a time of 55.62 seconds, shaving 0.58 seconds off his previous best from 2019.

He’s now a massive favourite for the Nunthorpe, with the progressive Art Power his nearest challenger at 6/1. A’Ali is next best at 8/1, a price he shares with Sceptical, while American raider Golden Pal further back at 10/1.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Battaash smashed his own record at Goodwood today and deserves to be the stand-out favourite for next month’s Nunthorpe Stakes.”
