The 117th US Open gets underway today, and the historic event heads to Wisconsin for the very first time.
We can expect some riveting drama over the next four days at Erin Hills, and there’s some quality 3-balls to enjoy right from the off.
Here’s the key line-ups to watch out for…
Hideki Matsuyama / Rickie Fowler/ Jon Rahm @ 13:51 *all times BST
Earlier this year it looked like Hideki Matsuyama was going to sweep the world aside and claim everything.
It hasn’t turned out like that, but the Japanese ace can’t be discounted.
He opens alongside Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm, two men well-backed this weekend, and who both featured at the sharp end for most of the weekend in Augusta.
Martin Kaymer / Jordan Spieth / Dustin Johnson @ 14.35
Could this weekend’s winner come from this trio?
The odds certainly suggest as much, with Dustin Johnson 8/1 favourite and Spieth 14/1.
DJ is 6/5 to win this three-ball, but the intrigue here is provided by Martin Kaymer, who can often come from nowhere to produce a sensational performance.
Bubba Watson / Adam Scott / Sergio Garcia @ 19:36
This trio collectively boast four Masters, although success in the other Majors has eluded them so far.
Bubba Watson isn’t massively fancied this weekend, and he’s the 11/5 outsider to win this 3-ball.
Can Sergio Garcia double up from that famous win in Augusta? Both he and Adam Scott have been in good form so don’t be surprised to see one of these two near the top tonight.
Jason Day / Justin Rose / Rory McIlroy @ 20:09
This three-ball could be the best of the lot.
After four straight US Open top ten finishes, two-time runner-up Jason Day is out to go one better.
Justin Rose will be desperate to make amends for that play-off defeat to Garcia in Georgia, and then there’s Rory, who is ready to bounce back after missing much of the season with a rib injury.
All three men are out to make a statement this weekend, so this should be fantastic viewing.
